About Me
Monika Kuhlmann
Artist + Creative Leader
After two decades in public education, I’m building the creative studio I always envisioned.
Founder, Art & Soul

More Monika . . .
Artist. Educator. Founder of Art & Soul.
For over 20 years, I have worked in public education - beginning as a general education classroom teacher and, for the past 8 years, serving as a Visual Arts Specialist in Seattle. Across roles and grade levels, I have taught thousands of children and built a curriculum designed to nurture creativity, skill, and confidence.
My years in general education gave me a deep understanding of child development, structure, and the emotional landscape of the classroom. Transitioning into a dedicated art role allowed me to refine my expertise - guiding young artists through drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and creative problem solving.
Over time I began to feel the limits of the traditional school setting. Large class sizes and compressed schedules often left little time for depth. I knew children were capable of more sustained focus, more risk-taking, and more meaningful artistic growth.
Art & Soul was born from that knowing.
This studio is my next chapter - a more intentional creative space where young artists can slow down, work with real materials, develop technical skill, and build confidence through process-based art experiences.
My mission is to create a calm, high-quality environment where children feel capable, seen, and inspired - and where art is treated as something powerful, not decorative.
I believe art builds resilience.
I believe practice builds self-trust.
I believe that children deserve time to explore deeply.
Art & Soul is the studio I always envisioned.
Follow your Art.

Hanna Stevens
Hanna is beyond excited to start Art Camp adventures with Monika!
Hanna and Monika met in 2017 as co-teachers at Highland Park elementary. She has over 15 years of education experience, most recently adding a special education endorsement to her teaching credentials.
Hanna has a 5-year-old son, Ben, who is the light of her life (and also she’s tired all of the time and
never not doing laundry).
Hanna can’t wait to bring her love of pottery and ceramics to Art and Soul! Hanna’s mother owned her own pottery studio for many years and has taught Hanna all she knows about the wonders of clay.
When Hanna isn’t teaching she loves to spend time in the outdoors hiking, skiing, and adventuring. She is an avid reader read, board game enthusiast with Ben, and, of course, she plays with clay any chance she gets.
